Aisha Yesufu Drags EFCC For Hiring Adeherself To Sensitize Corps Members On Risks Of Cybercrime

Published

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for using social media influencer, Adeherself, to educate serving corps members about the risks of cybercrime.

GQBUZZ recalls Adeherself is currently facing trial for a 7.9 million Naira fraud case, had initially been accused of involvement in cyber fraud when she was first arrested by the EFCC during a raid in June 2020.

The anti-graft agency subsequently charged her with possession of fraudulent documents with the intent to defraud.

However, in a surprising twist, the EFCC stated that the defendant had now become a stakeholder in the fight against corruption and had engaged her to counsel corps members on avoiding cybercrime.

The EFCC announced on the social media platform X that Adewale (Adeherself) had served as a speaker during a sensitization program organized by the commission at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.

In response to this development, Yesufu expressed her perspective, asserting that crime is not a significant issue in Nigeria, especially when it involves prominent personalities. She added that only minor crimes are criminalized.

Quoting a tweet, she commented: “In Nigeria, crime is not the issue as long as it is done big time. Petty crime is what is criminalized.”
