It has emerged that several members of the Newcastle squad as well as a member of staff tested positive for COVID19 and as a result, the entire team has since gone into isolation and the game against Aston Villa scheduled for Friday, December 4 is in doubt

There have been no training activity in Newcastle grounds on Tuesday, December 1, with the grounds set to be re-opened on Wednesday.

According to reports, Newcastle boss Steve Bruce cancelled the training session and ordered for thorough a clean-up of the Newcastle base after it emerged that up to four players and one member of the backroom staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Because of the discovery, members of the first team were retested but the results had alarming positive cases, resulting in a ‘blanket’ self-isolation order.

If the Newcastle game ends up being postponed, it will be the first one being rescheduled over COVID-19 grounds since the Premier League resumed in June 2020.

According to Premier League COVID-19 protocols, a game only warrants a postponement if Newcastle had fewer than 15 players available for the game.
