Burna Boy Loses All Seven Nominations at 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards

Published

Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy faced disappointment on Tuesday night as he lost all seven of his nominations at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, held at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in the United States.

The 32-year-old Nigerian artist came up short in several key categories, including Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year, with these awards going to American rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Additionally, Burna Boy was bested by rapper and filmmaker 50 Cent for the title of Hustler of the Year.

He also lost the Best Collaboration of the Year award for his song ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World,’ which featured 21 Savage, with this honor going to Lil Durk and J. Cole for ‘All My Life.’

Burna Boy’s hard work did not secure him the award for Best Hip Hop Video, as he was surpassed by rapper Lil Uzi Vert in this category. Moreover, he did not clinch the Song of the Year award.

On a brighter note, Ghanaian artist Black Sherif emerged victorious in the Best International Flow category, outshining South Africa’s late AKA and K.O, France’s Gazo and Ninho, and the UK’s J Hus, Central Cee, and others.
