Chelsea Captain Reece James Could Be Out For Four Months
Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, is set to be out of action for three to four months due to a recent hamstring injury.
Football London has noted that James, who was taken off in the 76th minute against Liverpool, might be sidelined for several matches because of this injury.
After Cesar Azpilicueta transferred to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, the English wing-back was appointed as the team captain for the West London side by their new coach, Mauricio Pochettino.
James featured in Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Liverpool this past Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
On the topic of why he replaced his newly-appointed captain during the match, the Argentine manager remarked, “Because he was tired.”
“You need to see from where he came. The first thing we did when we arrived was to assess and analyse all of the players from the past.
“He was injured for three or four months. This pre-season was tough for him, we didn’t want to take any risk and that is why at 80 minutes, we wanted to avoid the risk.”
While it is not certain how long James will be out, football journalist, Nathan Gissing said he is billed to undergo a scan on Friday.
