‘Chelsea has no money’ – Swiss billionaire gives his take on buying Chelsea

Published

Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has confirmed that Roman Abramovich has offered to sell him Chelsea, and that the Russian is in a ‘panicky’ state.

It has been confirmed that the Chelsea owner has put the club up for sale, amid sanctions from the UK following Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.

Wyss isn’t sure he’d buy over Chelsea due to the club’s debt to Roman Abramovich, and with the Chelsea owner seeking for up to £3billion, Wyss doubts it will be a good investment for him to take on his own.

Asked if he will take up the Russian on his offer, Wyss told Swiss newspaper Blick: “I have to wait four or five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much.

“You know Chelsea owe him £2billion? But Chelsea has no money, which means that whoever buys Chelsea has to compensate Abramovich.

“As of today, we don’t know the exact selling price.

“I can well imagine starting at Chelsea with partners, but I have to examine the general conditions first. But what I can say for sure is that I’m definitely not doing something like this alone. If I buy Chelsea, then it would be with a consortium consisting of six or seven investors.”
