Chelsea Legend Drogba Suffers Major Setback in His Quest to be President Amid coronavirus Crisis
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba’s quest of becoming the new Ivory Coast football association president suffered a major disappointment.
The 42-year-old polled zero votes at the end of the process as 11 of the 14 delegates pitched their tents with his opposition Sory Diabate, while three persons stayed back.
Apart from the former Blues striker, the association’s current vice president Idriss Diallo was also left without a single vote from the ex-players as reported by Brila.net.
However, the outcome of the election which was conducted via teleconferencing appeared to have sparked up engagements in Ivory Coast.
Reports from the country claimed Drogba was in pole position heading to the polls, significantly after the withdrawal of Eugene Diomande from the race.
The seasoned administrator after backing down rallied support for the former national team captain for the position.
This, however, means that Drogba will have to return to the drawing board, gets his game together, and relaunch next time.
It would be recalled that Chelsea tried giving their icon a role at Stamford Bridge after announcing his retirement but he turned it down to pursue his own ambition.
Maybe the Premier League club can try to lure their former striker back to the club once more before he would be presented another opportunity to fight for FIF presidency.
Meanwhile, he will hope the members of the Active Footballers Association, the coaches, referees, and the physios vote for him when they cast theirs.
