China 5G Self-driving Cars Set Undergoes Testing

Published

China on Thursday opened its first 5G covered road for testing of self-driving cars.

The China 5G-covered road for testing self-driving cars was formally opened in the Baohe District of Hefei City, east China’s Anhui Province, welcoming passengers’ first batch.

The 4.4-km-long ring road is open to both self-driving vehicles and ordinary vehicles.

Construction of the 5G road began in August 2019 and has since achieved 5G network coverage, installed road conditions monitoring devices, and built a cloud platform control centre.

The construction company has said that self-driving cars could improve intelligent driving on this road, and with 5G technology, the safety of the vehicle’s operations has been improved.

Over a dozen Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, have been approved to conduct tests for self-driving vehicles.
