Election: Lawmaker And 163 Others Nabbed Over Attempt To Destroy INEC Office In Kano
Isyaku Danja, a member of the Kano House of Assembly, was detained for reportedly organizing a group of criminals to destroy the INEC collation center in the state’s Gezawa Local Government Area.
Together with 163 other people, Danja, who represents the Gezawa constituency, was detained. The recently concluded governorship and house of assembly elections saw the arrest of 164 people for a variety of political offenses. Kano Police Commissioner Husaini Gummel explained that those paraded were accused of alleged ballot box snatching, election disruption, using dangerous weapons, and engaging in drug-related crimes.
Gummel added that they will be looked into and dealt with appropriately. He stated:
“As part of our activities in ensuring peaceful conduct of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state, we are parading suspects arrested for various violations during the elections.
“They were arrested for ballot paper snatching, disruption of voting, wielding of dangerous weapons while some were caught with drugs.
“Amongst those arrested is a member of the state House of Assembly, Isyaku Danja of Gezawa constituency, who led a team of hoodlums and attempted to destroy the INEC collation centre at Gezawa.”
