Elon Musk To Quit As Twitter CEO After Users Vote Him Out

Published

Billionaire entrepreneur has pledged to follow the outcomes of his online poll asking whether he should resign as the platform’s CEO.

Just weeks after taking over as CEO of the social media behemoth, Twitter users have voted in favor of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk stepping down from his position. Musk personally organized the poll and committed to uphold it.

Over 17 million accounts, or 57.5 percent, voted for him to resign on Monday. Musk, the CEO of the rocket company SpaceX as well as the automaker Tesla, has not yet commented.

He merely took over Twitter on October 27 and has since courted controversy by firing half of the workers, re-admitting far-right figures, barring journalists, and attempting to charge for services that were previously free.

Analysts have also noted that Tesla’s stock price has fallen by a third since Twitter’s acquisition.

“It’s hard to ignore the numbers since [Twitter] deal closed,” tweeted investment expert Gary Black, saying he reckoned Tesla’s board was putting pressure on Musk to quit his Twitter role.

In discussions with users after posting his latest poll, Musk claimed he had no successor in mind and renewed his warnings that the platform could be heading for bankruptcy.
