Exposed! How Wizkid, Wande Coal Took Loans At Some Point In Their Careers
Godwin Tom, the Managing Director of Sony Music Publishing Nigeria, has shared insight into the determination aof Nigerian artists on their journey to stardom.
In an interview with 3Music TV in Accra, Ghana, he revealed that both Wizkid and Wande Coal, two prominent Nigerian singers, resorted to taking bank loans at certain points in their careers to finance their musical endeavors.
Tom commended Nigerian artists for their commitment to their craft, emphasizing that they were willing to invest in themselves to achieve the remarkable success they enjoy today.
He pointed out that when Nigerian artists receive news of their songs topping charts or gaining recognition in places like Accra, they spare no effort to capitalize on the opportunity.
They go to great lengths to promote their music, even if it means borrowing money to fund their trips and promotional activities.
In his own words, Tom stated, “If a Nigerian artist hears that his song is number one in Accra, he is showing up the next day. He is going to borrow money if he has to. He’s gonna come do radio interviews. He’s gonna find who he needs to talk to. He’s gonna come in and find out how he can capitalize on that attention. He would do some club appearances. He would make some money. He could enter this country with a $100 and leave with $20,000.”
