Published

On Monday in Ilorin, the state’s capital, men from the Kwara State Fire Service pulled Mrs. Jamiu Sikirat’s 57-year-old remains from a well.

Sikirat, who was from the Ile-Agunko compound of the Adeta region, in the Ilorin West Local Government region, before she died in the well, did so on Monday at around 6:42 p.m.

According to Hassan Adekunle, a spokesman for the state fire department, Mr. Muhammad Jamiu, a resident of the neighborhood where the sad incidence took place, called to inform them of the tragedy.

He informed that “Firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of Nigerian police officers from Adewole Division Ilorin.”

It was reported that the late Sikirat went to fetch some water from the well when one of her legs tripped, and she fell her into the well.

The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the matter.

Olumuyiwa advised the general public to be mindful of their daily activities and avoid sending children to fetch water from wells.

Recall, a similar incident in July 2022, when Banji Adebayo, male, aged 25 years, was reported to have slipped off the edge of a well on an early Monday morning, at Ile-Nla, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
