France’s Dembele Ruled Out Of Euro 2020 With Injury
France and Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele has reportedly been ruled out for the rest of Euro 2020 following an injury sustained during their 1-1 draw with Hungary on Saturday
The 24-year-old came on for Adrien Rabiot in the 57th minute but hobbled off holding onto leg, and was replaced by Thomas Lemar shortly before full-time.
RMC Sport have now reported that the Barcelona forward has left the camp and will miss the rest of the European Championships
It is a blow for France who won’t be able to replace Dembele, who also made a one minute cameo during their opening game victory over Germany.
Dembele has been plagued by injuries since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for £135.5m back in August 2017
In Dembele’s first three seasons at the Nou Camp he only made 75 appearances largely due to to persistent and niggling injuries.
However, last season he scored 11 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions and earned his first recall to the French squad since 2018.
His absence would mean that pre-tournament favourites France have one less attacking option for the remainder of the tournament.
Didier Deschamps’ men find themselves in a battle to finish top of their group of death, with a tricky match against Portugal to come on Wednesday.
France will hope for a big improvement from their performance against Hungary who were able to hold the heavy favorites to a draw in Budapest.
