I Do Not Regret My Action – Governor Wike Speaks on Demolition of Hotels

Governor Nyesom Wike has said that he doesn’t regret demolishing two hotels in Rivers state, following the contravention of a total lockdown order he issued.

Recall that the Rivers state governor’s action was trailed by mixed reactions as some called him out, while others defended him.

Governor Wike who explained why he took the decision of demolishing the hotels in an interview on AIT, said officials of the Rivers state government were maimed at the hotels while enforcing the lockdown order.

He insisted that he can’t be a happy man if people lose their jobs and means of livelihood, but also pointed out that people should not put others at risk because they do not want to obey laws.

The Rivers state Governor who disclosed that most cases of Coronavirus recorded in the state stayed in hotels before being diagnosed with the disease, averred that it is left for the court to determine if he is right or wrong.

Wike also confirmed that a PDP youth leader led the attack on the task force officials which resulted in demolition of one of the hotels.
