I Have Participated In The Killing Of Six People – 14-year-old Suspected Armed Robber Who Joined Gang At Age 7 Confesses In Delta

Published

In a significant operation conducted jointly by the Delta State Police Command and local vigilantes, a 14-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Gift Peace, along with two other members of his gang, was apprehended in Warri.

Gift Peace was nabbed at a Suya spot located at the Enerhen junction in the Warri South Local Government Area. He had been part of a notorious gang that had been terrorizing the area for seven years.

Startlingly, the teenage suspect admitted to his involvement in the killing of six individuals, including a vigilante at 1st Marine Gate, during various armed robbery operations.

The breakthrough in the case occurred when the gang’s leader, known as Goodluck, was arrested at Marine Quarters in Warri by vigilant members. Goodluck, in his confession, led the police to the Suya spot where Gift Peace was present, ultimately leading to his capture.

Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed that two other male gang members, Idigbe Osreis (19) and Idigbe Perfect (16), were apprehended in their hideout.

The incident that led to their arrest began with a distress call received by the DPO of ‘B’ Division Warri about an armed robbery operation at Giwamu Junction in Warri on September 29, 2023. A police undercover operative was at the scene during the attack and spotted one of the suspects. This operative followed the suspect to the Suya spot at Enerhen Junction, where Gift Peace was ultimately apprehended.

DSP Bright Edafe revealed that Gift Peace, the 14-year-old suspect, confessed to being a member of the armed robbery gang that had been terrorizing Warri and its surroundings. Shockingly, he claimed to have been involved in such criminal activities since he was only seven years old.

The teenager provided the names of other gang members and led the detectives to their hideout. Unfortunately, during the operation, when the gang members attempted to escape in an unregistered operational tricycle, they opened fire on the police. In the ensuing confrontation, the gang’s leader sustained serious gunshot injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Items recovered from the scene included the gang’s operational tricycle, a locally-made cut-to-size single-barrel gun with expended cartridges, and three live cartridges.
