India Immigration Arrests Two Nigerians With Over 150 Cocaine Pellets In Stomach

Published

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, a representative from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) announced that two Nigerian citizens had been detained at the Mumbai airport for attempting to smuggle in cocaine worth close to Rs 30 crore concealed inside capsules that they had consumed.

On Friday, two passengers traveling from Lagos to Addis Abeba via the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport were detained by DRI authorities acting on intelligence inputs.

Due to concerns that they may have had drugs hidden in their bodies, DRI authorities brought the pair before a judge and requested a medical exam.

Later, a medical examination confirmed that the two passengers had ingested capsules containing some substance. The duo purged 167 capsules over three days, he said.

The capsules contained a total of 2.97 kg of cocaine worth ₹ 29.76 crore, the DRI official said.

While the duo was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a court has remanded them in judicial custody, the official said.
