Islamic Clerics Sentence To Death In Kano

Published

Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara, a controversial Islamic preacher, was found guilty of blasphemy on Thursday and was given a death by hanging sentence by a Kano Upper Shariah Court.

The order was given by the court, which was presided over by Ibrahim Sarki Yola, as it rendered its verdict.

He also commanded the government to confiscate the cleric’s mosques and take control of them, as well as to forfeit the 182 books the cleric uses to spread his message and transport them to a public library.

The judge also issued a warning to media outlets to stop airing his views and teachings.

For suspected blasphemy against the Holy Prophet and incitement in the state, Sheikh Abduljabbar was brought before the court.

In the courtroom full of attorneys and journalists, with dozens of armed police officers and other paramilitary guards on duty outside, Kabara sat quietly throughout the verdict.

Insisting that he was innocent while rejecting his attorney’s request for mercy, Kabara urged his followers to maintain composure.
