Jadon Sancho Reveals He Supported Chelsea As A Youngster

Published

England winger Jadon Sancho has admitted he grew up supporting Chelsea – and idolized Blues legend Frank Lampard – as Manchester United continue their bid to bring him to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has placed Sancho at the top of his wishlist after failing in a move for the Borussia Dortmund star last summer, with the two clubs currently negotiating over a transfer fee. The German outfit are demanding around £80m, having rejected United’s bid of £67m.

But even though Sancho could end up plying his trade at Old Trafford this season, he has revealed he was a boyhood fan of their Premier League rivals Chelsea

Sancho is preparing for Euro 2020 with the England camp ahead of their tournament opener against Croatia on Sunday and was asked to name his England hero while speaking with talkSport.

England hero? I’d probably say Frank Lampard. I was a Chelsea fan growing up, I’m not gonna lie! Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard were my favourite players at the time.

‘I just loved Frank Lampard and how he played his game – he was so direct and so composed on the ball and I like things like that.

Lampard finished his career as Chelsea’s all time top scorer with 211 goals after 648 club appearances – and also picked up 106 caps for England.

Sancho – who himself has 19 caps for his country – will be vying for a starting spot in Southgate’s team for the Euros, battling with the likes of Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling on the wing to support Harry Kane.
