Luis Suarez Recovers From Coronavirus… Test Negative!
Uruguay and Atletico Madrid forward Luis Suárez tested negative for COVID-19 when tested on Thursday morning, which means that he will finally be able to rejoin his Atletico Madrid teammates in training on Friday.
The 33-year-old striker will thus be available for Diego Simeone when Los Rojiblancos host Real Valladolid at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano this weekend.
Suarez had been in quarantine for two weeks after testing positive for coronavirus whilst on international duty with Uruguay. In fact, after returning to Spain and undergoing quarantine in his apartment, he had been able to train away from his teammates and the coaching staff.
Atletico have been without Suarez for some key matches of late, such as their LaLiga Santander fixtures against Barcelona and Valencia, as well as two Champions League matches against Lokomotiv Moscow and Bayern Munich. In those four games, Los Colchoneros mustered just three goals.
In fact, it is necessary to investigate those three goals further. The one against Barcelona was due a horrible mistake by Marc-Andre ter Stegen; the one away at Valencia was due to a Toni Lato own goal; and the goal against Bayern, unlike the previous two, came after some good play by Atletico.
Now, Suarez will be hoping to feature when Valladolid visit the Spanish capital on Saturday evening as Atletico look to go top of the table. It is also expected that he will play in next Wednesday’s crucial Champions League match away to Red Bull Salzburg next Saturday, which could see Los Rojiblancos book their place in the last 16 of the competition.
