Man City ‘Make £100m Bid’ For Harry Kane As Negotiations With Tottenham Begin

Published

Tottenham have reportedly rejected an opening offer of £100million from Manchester City to sign their captain and talisman Harry Kane.

The England captain wants to leave Spurs this summer and the Premier League champions are at the front of the queue of clubs attempting to sign him.

It is reported that City are prepared to enter into a lengthy negotiation process to land the 27-year-old, who is currently representing England at Euro 2020.

Whilst Spurs are said to be reluctant to sell their star player under any conditions, their resolve may be tested by the Etihad outfit, who are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.

Sergio Aguero left City this summer and the only recognised senior striker in City’s ranks is Gabriel Jesus – with Kane the club’s preferred option to become their primary attacking option.

The England international wants to leave the North London club this summer and City now appear to be at the front of the queue to sign him, with Manchester United and Chelsea also potential destinations.

A report on CBS Sports outlines the situation as the Premier League champions look to smash their transfer record to land the marquee signing.

It is claimed that whilst the bid has been rejected, it could commence a lengthy series of discussions between the two clubs.

City are even said to be willing to include first-team squad players in an attempt to sweeten the deal for their Premier League rivals.

The three players mentioned in this theoretical development are Kane’s England teammate Raheem Sterling, alongside central defender Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus – the latter of whom could act as a de facto replacement for Kane in the Tottenham ranks.

Speaking about his future being a subject of debate, Kane told Gary Neville last month: “I think so. I think it’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club.

“Yeah, like you say, I want to be playing in the biggest games. The biggest moments.

“Like, this season I’m there watching the Champions League, watching the English teams in there doing amazing. They are the games that I want to be involved in.

“I want to be in them games. So for sure, it’s a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I’m at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman. I hope that we can have that conversation.

“I’m sure that he’ll want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career this moment in time.”

When discussing Spurs supremo Daniel Levy, Kane added: “He’s been great with me if I’m totally honest. I mean, he’s always rewarded me with contracts. Like obviously I signed maybe a four or five-year deal when I was 21 but I’ve done well so he’s added to that. He’s been great with me.

“He’s been fair with me. He’s never kind of just held me on to a contract and said ‘No, I’ve paid you that. You’re going to stay on that’.

“So, we’ve always had a good relationship, but yeah, I’m not sure how that conversation will go if I’m honest, but you know what it’s like as players you don’t know what the chairman is thinking.

“I don’t know, I mean he might want to sell me. He might be thinking ‘If I could get 100 million for you, then why not?’

“Do you know what I mean? I’m not going to be worth that for the next two or three years.”

When it was put to him that the transfer fee might be more like £200m than £100m, Kane laughed and said: “But erm, but yeah. It’s going to be. I hope we have a good enough relationship.

“I’ve given the club…well, I’ve been there for 16 years of my life. So, I hope that we can have a good honest conversation and see where we are at in that aspect.
