Man Trampled To Death By Horse Rider In Jigawa – Police

According to the Jigawa State Police Command, Muhammad Mustapha, a horse rider, was apprehended after he allegedly crushed a cyclist named Umar Hassan, 70, to death in Jigawa State’s Ringim Local Government Area.

The suspect, a 25-year-old resident of Unguwar Maina in the municipality of Ringim, was riding a horse without permission, according to the command’s public relations officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who verified the occurrence in a press statement on Monday.

He allegedly lost control during this process, treading on the 70-year-old man who lived in Galadanchi quarters at Tsigi Quarters in Ringim LGA.

The biker sustained various degrees of wounds and fractures to his left shoulder and leg as a result of the accident.

“A team of policemen promptly besieged the scene and rushed the victim to Ringim General Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment,” the statement said.

The remains of the victim have since been handed over to the relatives for burial, while the suspect was arrested and is currently detained in police custody.

The suspect, according to the PPRO, will be charged in court upon completion of a discreet investigation.

To prevent future occurrences, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot urged parents to warn their children to desist from illegal horse riding across the state, as the command will not hesitate to clamp down on any violator of the directive.
