Microfinance Bank MD Commits Suicide Over Paid N1m Loans By Customers
At his home in Iseyin town, Oyo State, Sola Ogungbe, a 41-year-old manager at SEAP Micro-Finance Bank Saki, tragically committed suicide.
The Nation reports that Ogungbe killed himself on June 14 after some of his clients didn’t repay the N1 million loan he had arranged for them.
The deceased’s coworker allegedly got in touch with Ogungbe’s wife on Wednesday after he skipped work due to the loan default situation.
She reportedly discovered his dead that evening when she returned home to tell her husband about the call.
A close friend of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, said it is regrettable that the deceased chose to end his own life instead of seeking help from his friends.
“The issue of suicide is becoming alarming, Sola made a great mistake by taking his own life because of debt, if he had shared this issue with his friends, maybe somebody would have come to his aid,” he said.
“Everyone is going through one thing or the other but our survival is anchored upon a communal living and friendship, tell people about your issues, you don’t even know who can help you.”
The remains of the deceased has been taken to his hometown in Omu- Aran, Kwara State for burial.
