“Mind Your Business For Once” – Nigerians React As Pres. Tinubu Plans With AU To Decide Next Line Of Action in Gabon
Ajuri Ngelale, the special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and publicity, has announced that the President is engaging in consultations with the African Union (AU) to determine the subsequent actions regarding the coup situation in Gabon.
This development comes in the wake of the recent events where military officers in Gabon assumed control, displacing President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family has held power in the nation for five decades. The President had been controversially declared re-elected for a third term after a disputed election on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
In a press release dated Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Ngalale conveyed that President Bola Tinubu is vigilantly monitoring the situation, bearing a “profound concern for the social and political stability of the country and the apparent rise of autocratic tendencies extending across various regions of our cherished continent.”
The President underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law and consistently adhering to constitutional resolutions and electoral dispute resolution mechanisms. He emphasizes that these principles must endure in our remarkable continent.
With this in mind, President Tinubu is actively collaborating and maintaining communication with fellow Heads of State within the African Union. This collaborative effort seeks to reach a comprehensive consensus on the upcoming actions in Gabon and to address the prevalent trend of autocracy that has been observed proliferating across our continent.
