Update: Multiple People Shot, 13 Injured, and Explosives Found in Brooklyn Subway
Multiple people were shot and “several” undetonated explosive devices were discovered in a subway station in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, according to a brief email from the FDNY.
In total, at least 13 people were injured in the incident, FDNY said.
Emergency responders answered a call about reports of smoke in the subway station at 36th Street and 4th Avenue servicing the D, N, and R lines, the email continued. The station is located in the Sunset Park neighborhood and is a busy hub for commuters on a typical Tuesday morning.

Early media reports suggested that five people were shot, although the official number of victims appeared to be growing rapidly. Officials are seeking a man in a gas mask wearing an orange construction vest, a spokeswoman for the New York Police Department told VICE News.
Victims have been transported to the NYU Langone and Methodist Hospitals, the fire department said.
One picture posted on Twitter from the 36th Street Station showed a streak of blood across the subway station floor.
An audio recording from a firsthand witness posted by Gothamist described a frantic scene in which individuals attempted to flee. Juliana Fonda, a broadcast engineer at the radio station WNYC, said she was riding the N train when she heard shots in the next subway car, Gothamist tweeted.
“There were a lot of loud pops, and there was smoke in the other car,” she said. “People were trying to get in and they couldn’t. They were pounding on the door to get into our car.”
When the train got to the 36th Street station, she said she saw people lying on the platform who had been shot, and smoke wafting through the station.
New York police officials urged commuters to avoid the station, and New York Mayor Eric Adams is being briefed on the situation, his spokesman tweeted.
“While we gather more information, we ask New Yorkers to stay away from this area for their safety and so that first responders can help those in need and investigate,” Adams’ press secretary, Fabien Levy, wrote.
