Nigeria Army Comb Forest As Bandits Shifts Attention To South-West

Published

Like a river tumbling down a hillside, bandits frequently turn their attention from the northern section of the country to the South West region.

The frequency of kidnapping for ransom in the area is indicative of this.

The constancy of this obnoxious practice on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway is more frightful and concerning, as Nigerians have been swamped with reports of the kidnapping of unsuspecting motorists using this 127.6-kilometer-long highway.

These dishonest individuals, posing as herders, would suddenly appear, stop cars, kidnap passengers, and carry them into the South West region’s interstate forest where ransom discussions with the prisoners’ families would take place.

While some  victims never lived to narrate their ordeals in the hands of these villains, others managed to regain  their freedom, after payment of ransom.

For some of these villains, human life means nothing. They kill at will, abandoning corpses of victims in the forests, or  burying them in shallow graves, even when ransom had been paid.
