Nigerians Have No Reason To Be Poor – President Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu recently addressed the Nigerian community in the United States during a Presidential Townhall Meeting organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, coinciding with the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During his address in New York, President Tinubu encouraged Nigerians living abroad to adopt a change in mindset for success in all their endeavors and expressed his belief that Nigerians should not have reasons to be poor.
President Tinubu applauded the efforts made in addressing challenges such as out-of-school children, healthcare programs, and poverty eradication in Nigeria. He emphasized the belief that Nigeria is a blessed country and that poverty is not an inherent aspect of its identity but rather a result of certain leadership shortcomings.
Drawing from his own experiences, President Tinubu recounted the hurdles he faced during his political campaign and how his unwavering determination led to success. He encouraged those in the diaspora who aspire to political leadership roles to remain steadfast and committed to their goals.
Furthermore, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of a change in mindset, suggesting that Nigeria is brimming with business opportunities and that opportunities exist wherever individuals reside. The President expressed his delight in the accomplishments of Nigerians excelling in various fields in the U.S. and commended their exemplary behavior and contributions. He emphasized the need for unity among Nigerians, urging them to transcend ethnic labels and divisions to foster a sense of oneness.
During the Townhall Meeting, prominent Nigerians in the U.S. shared their success stories and initiatives aimed at supporting economic empowerment and community development. The first Nigerian-American elected into the United States Congress, Oye Owolewa, discussed the importance of black-owned businesses and federal contracts as avenues for economic empowerment.
Olufunmilola Obe, an Inspector in the New York Police Department, spoke about her efforts to make Africa, particularly Nigeria, proud in her role and her contributions to an African Law Enforcement Organization within the NYPD.
