OFFICIAL!!! Chelsea Agrees £14m Deal To Sign MLS Goal Keeper Djordje Petrovic

Published

Concerned about their sluggish beginning to the Premier League season, Chelsea have sealed a £14 million agreement for Serbian goalie Djordje Petrovic.

Within the next 48 hours, Petrovic is set to have a medical examination as Coach Pochettino aims to bolster competition for Richard Sanchez in the Chelsea goal.

Despite leading the Major League Soccer (MLS) in both saves and save percentage in 2023, it remains uncertain if Petrovic’s move will be immediate or postponed – a pattern seen previously with MLS transfers.

At the moment, Chelsea’s sole option in the net is Richard Sanchez, who joined from Brighton this summer.

With backup goalkeeper Marco Bettinelli sidelined due to injury, Lucas Bergstrom, who is just 20, is the only other goalkeeper Chelsea can currently call upon.

This summer saw Chelsea dispatching Edouard Mendy to the Saudi Pro League, in addition to their loanees.

Since the departure of their former goalkeeper, Matt Turner, to the Premier League with Arsenal in 2022 (who is now with Nottingham Forest), Petrovic has been the standout shot-stopper for the Revolution.

Should the deal finalize, Petrovic will become the second MLS goalkeeper to sign with the West London club this season, following Slonina’s transfer from Chicago Fire on New Year’s Day.

Despite only featuring in 21 games last season, Petrovic was a close second in the 2022 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year race.
