OFFICIAL: Nkunku renews at RB Leipzig with 60 million buyout clause
This Thursday, RB Leipzig announced the renewal of Christopher Nkunku. The French attacker extends his contract until 30th June 2026 and he will have a buyout clause of 60 million euros.
Christopher Nkunku has become one of the revelations in Europe, if not the greatest. At the age of 24, the attacker has had a brilliant season at a RB Leipzig who do not want to see his terrific performances see him leave the club.
Therefore, the German side have extended the Frenchman’s contract. His contract runs until 30th June 2024 while the current one runs until 2026.
But this agreement does not have to be synonymous with the footballer staying on. Up to now, Nkunku did not have a buyout clause, something which has now been included at the footballer’s request. After being linked with several top European clubs, his buyout clause is now 60 million euros.
The man from Lagny-sur-Marne came from the PSG academy. He ended up playing 78 matches for the first team, but in 2019, RB Leipzig appeared to give him more game time. He made 84 appearances in his first two seasons although his goalscoring tallies were not better than decent. He scored five goals in the 2019-20 season and seven in the 2020-21 one. He did get plenty of assists though as he got 13 in 2020-21 and 9 in 2021-22.
However, this season was superb for Nkunku. He has got 4242 minutes in 52 matches and ended the season with 35 goals and 16 assists despite not being the main man. That responsibility usually goes to Andre Silva. These numbers put him in the shop window, but RB Leipzig have made this move as a result of possible buyers.
Christo is staying! 😍
