One Way: Soldiers Beat Up LASTMA and Police Officers

Published

Along the Eko Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday morning, some Nigerian Army troops assaulted a police officer and a representative of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The policeman and LASTMA officer halted the troops’ car on a one-way street, according to information received, and told them to turn around and go to the right lane.

It was discovered that tension had developed since neither party could reach a compromise following confrontations.

According to reports, the troops jumped on the two officials and started beating them after refusing to turn around.

Our journalist discovered that a different group of troops, who were traveling in the right lane of the road, pulled over when they saw the situation and joined their fellow soldiers in assaulting the authorities.

The injured officials are reportedly undergoing medical care in the hospital even though the situation has reportedly calmed down and both parties claim to have expressed regret.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the event to our correspondent but noted that all had been addressed.

He said, “Yes the incident happened this morning (Wednesday) along Eko bridge.

“Everything is fine now and our man is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Both parties have apologised to each other and there is no cause for alarm. The situation is under control.

“The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force in Lagos State will continue to co-exist in harmony,” he added.
