Police Recover illegal Weapons From Thugs In Bauchi
23 illegal rifles and rounds of ammunition have been seized by the Bauchi State Police Command from lawbreakers in the State
The state’s police spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, announced this in a statement on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. He said the command has received additional logistics and has increased watertight security to ensure the peace of the upcoming governor and state assembly elections while continuing to mop up illegal firearms.
“The command in its unrelenting efforts continues to mop up illicit arms in the state. This is following the directives of the inspector general of police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba to curb the proliferation of small and light weapons in the state,” the statement read.
The PPRO said the command has conducted several daring operations and mop-up of firearms across the state, which resulted in the recovery of twenty-three (23) illegal firearms from the hands of miscreants.
These include; Nine (9) AK47 rifles, seven (7) assorted locally-made firearms, one (1) Light Assault Rifle (LAR), Six (6) Dane guns, and eighteen (18) rifle magazines.
“Also, a total of eighty-seven (87) rounds of live ammunitions of different calibres were equally recovered. Out of which were; Twenty-two (22) rounds of live 7×62.51mm NATO ammunitions, Nine (58) rounds of live 7×62.39mm ammunitions, Seven (7) 9mm live ammunitions, Four (4) machetes and ne (1) knife. Three (3) military camouflages were equally recovered,”
“However, it is worthy to note that the milestone recorded by the command would be attributed to the strategic review of the command’s mode of operations through robust partnership with other sister security agencies and through community partnership, which is known as community policing scheme.
“In conclusion, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan psc (+) wishes to unequivocally assure the good people of the Bauchi state of adequate security during and after the 2023 Gubernatorial and state assembly election.”
