Senate Urges IGP To Investigate Missing NSCDC Commander
The mysterious disappearance of Raymond Terwase Gaadi, the deputy commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), has been the subject of an inquiry by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, according to a request made by the Senate on January 25.
Raymond Terwase Gaadi was supposed to take over the command in Bayelsa State, but he disappeared after arriving in October 2022.
After missing Raymond’s calls on October 22, 2022, his older brother, Mr. Terkura Gaadi, claimed that he was unable to contact him because his phones rang nonstop until October 30th, when all the lines were turned off.
The proposal was made by Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev, who represents the Benue North West Senatorial District and serves as the vice chairman of the committee overseeing the judiciary, human rights, and legal issues.
Terwase is an indigene of Shorov, Buruku local Government area of Benue State, a council in Orker Jev constituency.
The senator who is subject to orders 41 and 51 said that Terwase Gaadi, a deputy commandant with the Nigeria security and civil defense corps (Nscdc) deployed to Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, had been missing since October 2022. She was submitting the motion titled “matter of urgent public significance.”
He also claimed that there was resistance from the officer that was to hand over to him and then suddenly the man was reported to be missing.
Senator Jev stated that Mr Terwase phoned his family and friends to inform them that the officer from whom he was supposed to take over was not only resisting handover but was threatening him.
According to him, two days after the call to his family and friends by the deputy commandant, an unidentified caller informed the family that Terwase Gaadi had gone missing. Since the October call, nothing has been heard of or from Terwase Gaadi.
The Senator said the NSCDC authorities who should have taken more interest than a passing interest in the wherebouts of their officer, have displayed shocking nonchalance over the matter nor the family aware of any police intervention on the matter leaving everyone to speculate what may have become of him.
The senate resolved to urge the commandant of the NSCDC to direct an internal investigation into the matter.
The lawmakers also urged the IGP to direct a full criminal investigation into Gaadi’s disappearance.
