“Shoprite Exit Will Help Local Supermarkets To Grow, They Can Go” – Shehu Sani

The planned exit of grocery retailer, Shoprite, has become an important topic for debate and discussion on social media after we published earlier that the Cape Town-based retailer has started a formal process to consider the potential sale of all or a majority stake in its supermarkets in Nigeria, it said in a trading statement for the 52 weeks to end June released on Monday.

In the statement, Shoprite said the results for the year do not reflect any of their operations in Nigeria as it will be classified as discontinued operation.

In reaction to this, former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has said the exit of Shoprite from Nigeria is good news and does not deserve the downcast. He said the exit will provide an opportunity for local supermarkets in the country to grow.

Sani mad this known in a tweet he shared on Monday. He wrote;
