Solution To Insecurity Lies In Fixing Economy And Reducing Poverty – Peter Obi

Published

The Labour Party’s Mr. Peter Obi has declared that when he and Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed are elected president in 2023, mending the economy will be their first priority.

On Monday, Obi made this statement while participating in the Kaftan TV show The Candidates, which was broadcast live in Abuja and was moderated by renowned television journalist Kadiara Ahmed.

He said that with 130 million of Nigeria’s projected 200 million people living in poverty, the continent’s most populous country was courting disaster since the large number of impoverished people may endanger the state’s security.

Obi said, “When you have over 130 million people in poverty you are bound to have a crisis because when people don’t know when the next meal is coming from, they become a security risk.

“To deal with this, we need to deal with the issue of food. We need to look at how do we feed the country considering that the greatest physical asset we have in this country is the uncultivated land in the North.”

The 2021 budget is almost N21 trillion with an estimated N11 trillion deficit, according to Obi, who was speaking about the budget deficit and his administration’s aspirations to change things. About N6 trillion will be used for subsidies. By the time the subsidy is gone, you have cut this in half. I think subsidies ought to end.

The LP candidate and his running partner both came on the program, and they both said that Nigerians needed to start realizing that this election was more than just a matter of the promises made by the various candidates.

He asked Nigerians to research all candidates before casting their votes.

People should start examining the past public actions of each candidate and asking questions about them.

Obi claimed that both he and his running mate had shown throughout their public lives how to build and manage wealth as private businessmen and that they had both performed admirably when serving in public office, with him serving two terms as Governor and his running mate serving two terms as a federal lawmaker.
