Unbelievable: Can This Happen In Nigeria? 1993 Toyota Corolla Clock 2million Km
A sort of record has been set by a man in New Zealand. He purchased a Toyota Corolla in 1993, and it has already traveled more than two million (20 lakh) miles. Surprisingly, the automobile is still putting out good mileage.
The 72-year-old Graeme Hebley discovered the milestone mark in March and thinks it will continue to flow “forever,” according to the New Zealand Herald.
According to the Herald story, Mr. Hebley has been employed as a contractor for newspaper delivery services since the 1960s. When he bought the vehicle in 2000, it had only 80,000 kilometers on the odometer.
Six days a week, Mr. Hebley makes the trek from Wellington to New Plymouth and back. This implies that the car travels 5,000 kilometers each week, necessitating a maintenance appointment every two weeks.
According to the New Zealand Herald, the Corolla, which still has the original engine and transmission, has been getting maintenance at Guthrie’s Auto Care in Whanganui every two weeks for the past 22 years.
“I broke down one morning in one of my vans. I rang John Sherman from Guthrie’s and he came out and helped me. I have been getting all of my servicing done here since,” Mr Hebley was quoted as saying by the Herald.
“It was used to deliver chippies in Tokyo before I got it,” he further said.
The only major changes in the car’s two-decade-long journey are cambelt – which has been replaced 20 times – and wheel bearings. Besides these parts, the car is original, the outlet further said.
